THE GOSPEL
Gospel Many people sit in church regularly, yet remain unclear on what the Gospel actually is.
Let’s make it plain.
The Gospel is not church culture.
It is not a denomination.
It is not self-improvement or behavior adjustment.
It is not deliverance routines.
It is not a system for getting material results.
The Gospel is news.
Not advice.
Not rules.
Not religion.
The word comes from the Greek euangelion — meaning good news, a proclamation of something already accomplished.
Not something you achieve.
Not something you sustain.
Something God has already done through Christ.
Here is the Gospel as Scripture defines it:
1 Corinthians 15:1–4
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
He was buried,
and He rose again on the third day.
That is the Gospel.
Not your fasting.
Not your giving.
Not your effort.
Christ’s finished work.
The Gospel declares that God has dealt with sin through Jesus’ death, defeated death through His resurrection, and now offers forgiveness and new life freely to anyone who believes.
Isaiah 53:5 foretold it:
“He was wounded for our transgressions… and by His stripes we are healed.”
Romans 1:16 explains it:
The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes.
Not to those who try harder.
Not to those who struggle more.
Not to those who qualify themselves.
To those who believe.
How does this Gospel reach people?
Not through rituals.
Not through objects.
Not through lineage.
Through preaching.
Romans 10:14–15
“How shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”
God sent a message.
Faith doesn’t come by pressure or fear.
Faith comes by hearing the Gospel.
(Romans 10:17)
What happens when someone believes this Gospel?
Salvation
“By grace you have been saved through faith.” — Ephesians 2:8
Righteousness
“The righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel.” — Romans 1:17
New Life
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
Peace with God
“Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God.” — Romans 5:1
Eternal Life
“He who believes has everlasting life.” — John 3:36
Not temporary relief.
Not emotional moments.
Real reconciliation with God.
Here’s the real issue today:
Many are active in church, but unfamiliar with the Gospel itself.
They know sermons, systems, and personalities—but not the message.
Because the Gospel is not about what you do for God.
It is about what God has done for you in Christ.
If what you consistently hear centers more on enemies, breakthroughs, giving, or spiritual battles—but rarely on Christ’s death, burial, resurrection, and what that means for you—then the Gospel is not at the center.
And without the Gospel, people can become deeply religious… yet unchanged.
The Gospel is the message that saves.
And it still works.
