LET YOUR ASSIGNMENT CONSUME YOU

 “LET YOUR ASSIGNMENT CONSUME YOU”
By Evangelist John Emmanuel Dickson

INTRODUCTION

In a world filled with distractions, comparisons, and shifting priorities, the child of God is called to a life of focus and faithfulness. The calling of God is not a side hustle—it is a consuming fire that should drive our every action, decision, and desire. When God gives an assignment, He expects you to be consumed by it until it is completed.

This teaching is a divine call to rekindle the fire for your God-given purpose and to live a life fully surrendered to your assignment, just like Jesus did.

---

1. THE MODEL OF JESUS: ASSIGNMENT FIRST

📖 John 4:34 (KJV)

> “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.”

Jesus made it clear that His nourishment—His sustenance—came from doing the Father’s assignment. He wasn’t driven by fame, food, or flattery, but by purpose. He was consumed by His mission to seek and save the lost.

📖 Luke 19:10

> “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Jesus did not allow anything to take the place of His assignment. His prayer life, miracles, and travels were all in line with the mission. Likewise, you are not here to waste time—you are here on assignment.

---

2. BE CONSUMED LIKE PAUL: NO ROOM FOR DISTRACTIONS

📖 Acts 20:24 (KJV)

> “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy…”

Paul had one obsession—to finish his course. He was consumed by the mandate to preach Christ, plant churches, and raise disciples.

📖 1 Corinthians 9:16

> “For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!”

A man who is consumed by his assignment has no time for envy, gossip, or distractions. His eyes are fixed on the goal.

3. WHY YOUR ASSIGNMENT MUST CONSUME YOU

a) You Will Give Account

📖 Romans 14:12

> “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”

God won’t ask how many likes you got on social media. He will ask, “Did you finish what I gave you to do?”

b) Others Are Tied to Your Obedience

📖 Romans 8:19

> “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.”

Someone’s salvation, healing, and destiny are tied to your obedience. If you delay, they suffer.

c) There Is No Fulfilment Outside Purpose

📖 Ecclesiastes 1:2

> “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.”

Until you align with your divine assignment, everything else is noise. Career, marriage, money—none of these satisfy like purpose does.

---

4. THE ENEMIES OF ASSIGNMENT

i. Distractions

📖 Luke 10:40-42 – Martha was “cumbered about with much serving,” while Mary focused on the Word.

ii. Comparison

📖 John 21:21-22 – Peter asked Jesus about John’s assignment. Jesus replied, “What is that to thee? Follow thou me.”

Your assignment is unique—don’t compare it with another person’s calling.

iii. Fear and Insecurity

📖 Jeremiah 1:6-7 – Jeremiah said, “I cannot speak.” But God said, “Say not, I am a child.”

If God called you, He will equip you.

---

5. STIR UP THE FIRE FOR YOUR ASSIGNMENT

📖 2 Timothy 1:6 (KJV)

> “Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee…”

You must take responsibility to keep the fire burning. How?

Prayer – Consistent fellowship with God gives strength for the assignment.

Study – The Word of God fuels clarity and direction.

Obedience – Start with what God told you last; more will come.

Mentorship – Submitting to those ahead of you protects your journey.

---

6. THE DANGERS OF ABANDONING YOUR ASSIGNMENT

📖 1 Kings 20:39-43 – The man was busy “here and there” and missed his responsibility. The king told him, “So shall thy judgment be.”

Many are busy “here and there”—in business, social media, and even good things—but not doing the one thing God asked them to do.

Don’t die full. Die empty, having poured out everything God placed inside you.

---

7. FINISH STRONG

📖 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV)

> “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith…”

It is not enough to start. You must finish. Heaven celebrates finishers, not starters.

Let your life be a testimony like that of David:

📖 Acts 13:36

> “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep…”

What a testimony! Will yours be the same?

---

CONCLUSION

You were not born just to occupy space. You were sent here on divine assignment. Until your assignment consumes you, distractions will command your attention.

You were called to do a specific work—let it burn in your spirit until it becomes your very food, just like Jesus.

When your assignment consumes you:

Heaven will back you.

Hell will fear you.

The world will feel your impact.

PRAYER

O Lord, ignite fresh fire in me for my assignment. Deliver me from distraction, delay, and discouragement. Let me not rest until I have fulfilled what You sent me to do. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
