THE DYNAMICS OF POTENTIAL

SERMON TITLE:
The Dynamics of Potential
Preacher: Evangelist John Emmanuel
Text: 2 Timothy 1:6, Matthew 25:14–30, Jeremiah 1:5

Introduction:

Every human being is born with potential. Potential is what God has already deposited in you—your gifts, talents, purpose, and divine capacity—waiting to be activated and expressed. Sadly, many live and die without ever tapping into it. But today, by the help of the Holy Spirit, we will uncover the dynamics of potential—the principles that govern how we discover, develop, and deploy what God has placed in us.

---

1. Understanding Potential

Definition:
Potential is hidden ability, dormant power, or unused strength. It is who you can become and what you can achieve, but have not yet.

Biblical Foundation:

Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…”

> God had a purpose before you had a body. You were born with potential, not to search for it.

Genesis 1:28 – “Be fruitful and multiply…”

> God never created anything empty. You were made with divine capacity to produce and multiply.

---

2. The Source of Potential

God is the Author of all true potential.
You cannot fully understand your capacity outside your Creator.

Colossians 1:16 – “All things were created by Him and for Him.”

Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

> You don’t determine your potential—you discover it in God.

---

3. Discovering Your Potential

How do you discover your potential?

a) By Seeking God

Proverbs 3:5-6 – “In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.”

b) Through Self-awareness and Reflection

What makes you passionate?

What problems do you feel called to solve?

What talents and gifts come naturally to you?

c) By the Help of the Holy Spirit

1 Corinthians 2:10–12 – “The Spirit searches all things…even the deep things of God.”

> It takes revelation to recognize your hidden gifts.

---

4. Developing Your Potential

Having potential is not enough. Potential that is not developed becomes wasted.

Matthew 25:14–30 – The Parable of the Talents

One received 5 talents, one 2, and another 1.

The first two invested and multiplied what they had.

The last buried his talent—and was called “wicked and lazy.”

Lessons:

What you don’t develop, you will lose.

God expects growth and productivity.

Excuses will never be rewarded.

How to Develop Your Potential:

Discipline – Stay focused and avoid distractions.

Diligence – Work hard and consistently.

Training – Learn, practice, improve.

Mentorship – Sit under those who have gone ahead.

> 2 Timothy 1:6 – “Stir up the gift of God which is in you…”

---

5. Deploying Your Potential

You were not given potential for decoration—it is for assignment, impact, and eternal value.

Romans 12:6–8 – “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us…”

Potential must be used:

In service to God (ministry, evangelism)

In blessing others (solving problems)

In fulfilling purpose (impacting generations)

> Your gift is not about your fame; it's about your function in God’s kingdom.

---

6. Enemies of Potential

a) Fear – “What if I fail?”

2 Timothy 1:7 – “God has not given us a spirit of fear…”

b) Laziness – Talents undeveloped due to slothfulness

Proverbs 18:9 – “He who is slack… is a brother to him who destroys.”

c) Comparison – Trying to be someone else

Galatians 6:4 – “Each one should test their own actions…”

d) Sin and Carnality – Derails your purpose

Hebrews 12:1 – “…Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles…”

---

7. The Fulfillment of Potential

Your goal in life should not be success alone—but significance—to finish your race having poured out all God gave you.

2 Timothy 4:7 – “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Jesus Christ – the perfect example.

He lived 33½ years.

Finished His assignment.

Declared in John 19:30 – “It is finished.”

> May you not die with your potential buried in the ground.

---

Conclusion:

There is greatness in you. There is divine ability in you. God placed something unique in your life that the world needs. Your generation is waiting for your manifestation!

Romans 8:19 – “For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.”

Don't live small when God created you for greatness.
Don’t settle when God called you to soar.

---

Call to Action:

Seek God and ask: Lord, what did You place in me?

Repent from neglecting your calling and gift.

Commit to develop your potential.

Use your potential to serve God's purpose and bless humanity.

---

Prayer:

Lord, open my eyes to see the potential You’ve placed in me.
Help me to stir up the gifts, to develop my abilities, and to use them for Your glory.
Let me not die with what You put in me. I want to hear “Well done” at the end of my race.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
